Gold Star Mom Home Renovation

Angela lost her son, SGT Kurtis Dean Arcala, in Iraq on 9-11-05. Her truck is a memorial to her son and it says 'We WILL never forget You'. She has had extensive water damage to her home and needs our help; lets not forget what her family has done for us by helping her with her needs.

Project:

Renovate Angela's home in Palmer, Alaska August 5-8th 2019. We need people to help with finishing roughing in electrical, plumbing, heating as soon as possible so it can be inspected by the City before we hang sheetrock. Some of this has been done by her son Jason, but it needs to be finished.

We need a minimum of $4000 to finish this project. We could use donations of materials as well. We need an exterior door, exterior deck wood, insulation, 1/2 and 5/8s drywall sheets, mud and tape, siding (T1-11 or vinyl), cabinets, and flooring. We need more than this but this will get us to a point where her house resembles her home again.

Connect Vets is partnering with United Way and Group Mission Trips to bring around 20 people up from the lower 48 to work on this project. These are laborers, but not experts in home renovation. We need people that can direct and help them accomplish their mission to restore Angela's home.

Project Background:

Around 2 years ago Angela noticed some water damage in a bathroom. She took out a loan to help renovate it, but as they started demoing the bathroom they noticed the damage hidden behind the walls was much more extensive then they were prepared to deal with. Since then, and the loan money ran out, her son Jason has been working on it one small project at a time. She has been living without a functional kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, and closet since.
